I'm very happy to read this. This is the kind of details that needs to be given and not the random misinformation that is at the other blogs. Appreciate your sharing this best doc.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you Paul. Thank you for your continuous work on this site which has brought back many memories to me, my brothers and sisters, and all the local people. I believe that credit should be given to those who deserve it, and I believe that you deserve it. We once played together as friends and that's how I will always remember you. Take care now and all the best for the coming years. Fred. Admin reply: Thanks Fred Happy new year mate...there is a minor problem with the site at the moment which I am hoping can be sorted

Your site has brought back many memories. Dr de Souza treated me a number of times for various cuts.Once I had acute appendicitisl and he picked me up and Dad from the house, phoned another doc to administer anaesthetic, drove us to Merthyr General and used keyhole surgery to extract the offending organ. That was in 1947... many years before keyhole surgery became popular. His son Peter,a school mate became an actor. Admin reply: Thanks Carwyn...hope you enjoyed the site

Loved the web site ! My grandfather's name was Alexander James Ellis and he and his family (my father Alexander, his brother Robert and their sister Elsie lived in Treharris from about 1908 until 1921. I went on-line and saw the outside of 7 Field Street, but his houses at 7 The Huts and 7 Drab Cottages did not show up. Can you tell me what happened to these houses? Do you have you any pictures of the houses. If you can give my e-mail to the one who lives at 7 Field Street, Treharris, maybe we could write to each other.. I live in Australia, Queensland and I know how it is to write by post as it takes months to get anywhere. So could you help me. Thankyou, Alana Auliff (nee Ellis)

Hello I just recently came across your web site and the villages where so much of my Welsh family history has roots. Number 44 Webster Street , Treharris, especially - in the 1911 census I find my Grandparents, my Father and his sister and their half-brother living there, another Grand-daughter was born there in 1917 and my Aunty is married from there in 1925. My Grandparents were Thomas and Mary Ann Ellis née Hughes, my Father Thomas John, his sister Sarah Ann who later married David J Williams from Bedlinog, and the half-brother was David Vane from Mary Ann's first marriage who I think later lived in Field Street where his son David Elfed was born. My Father worked in the pit there so I suppose it was the Deep Navigation, he was only a young lad when he started and I can vividly remember stories he told me about how hard it was, for example when he had his leg broken and had to walk back home hanging on to the window-sills of the houses for support. He stayed in the pit for about 7 years, that's all, then he joined the army, but it was enough to be the cause of his death from pneumoconiosis some 50 odd years later. He left Wales to live in Lancashire once he was married but we always went back a couple of times a year. My Aunty Sarah as far as I can remember, is buried in the cemetery in Quaker's Yard but I don't know whether it still exists. I would be really interested to know if the house in Webster Street is still standing and if there's a photo, that would be even better. Best wishes - Gwen (in France)

INFO = My sister, Gaynor and I were browsing through your website today. We'd just like to say how brilliant we think it is and it's brought back some wonderful memories of our childhood. We lived in 26 Maen Gilfach, Stormtown We were definitely there in 1976, Avril was at University and Gillian was to follow later that year. We will have a trawl and look for some photos which will be of interest to residents of Trelewis. We especially liked the photo of our first cousin, Kevin, with a good mop of hair! I live in Caerphilly these days, though have just moved from Cardiff where I lived for 15 years. My sister, Gaynor has lived in Halifax, w. Yorkshire for 25 years and is a Public Health Manager, I am a Community Nurse. Good Luck with the website!
